An advert for an item of clothing or accessory and the necessary research.

For this last part of the brief I will be looking at fashion adverts and choosing an item of my own clothing or jewellery to photograph in the studio, professionally, and then edit it and include a famous designers logo and text and a slogan to accompany the product.

I will start by looking at existing adverts and seeing what I need to include in my own.

Sex sells
This is a must in most fashion, clothing adverts. To catch attention with half nude/nude attractive models draped over each other or the product in question. Sometimes when you watch some of their adverts for perfume it's like a mini story and you have no idea what the advert is for until the last 10seconds when the model holding the product in her/his hands, then there is a narrater that says something like, "Go far, with D & G new fragrance 'Passion'."

For example:

This is a perfume advert. At the start there is a woman sunbathing, then a guy in his underwear is starring at her, then he dives into the sea and she follows. Then they both get out and start to kiss. Then it pans out to this final shot and the narrater says: " Dolce & Gabbana, light blue."

The poster adverts are just as bad for this. There could be an advert for a handbag and there might be a woman in the photo with a very serious look on her face and a pose that makes her look very uncomfortable and there could be so much going on behind her that you don't notice the handbag in her hand.

Sometimes it doesn't even say what the advert is for, you are just to know that it is by say, D&G.
There product however is always showing the logo of whichever designer it is.
This advert says 'D&G Jewels' so you can guess what they are advertising.

Perfume advert, but again with the nudity. I guess they are trying to get the point across that it can be the only thing you wear and you will feel great, or wear it and feel sexy?

Sunglasses.

Handbag.

I had a look on the D&G website to see how they portray the products - http://www.dolcegabbana.com/

They are very well lit and there is no one in the shot other than what is needed.

But again the logo is always visible.

The lighting picks up all the textures and colours of the products very well so that you can see everything as it is. The only problem with this kind of minimal photography is that you can't see the actual size of the product and they are not cheap. If i says 'Small Leather bag' you can guess it's not going to be huge but you have no idea whether it will be ok sized or the size of a small purse.

I have decided to bring in a necklace or pair of shoes to photograph.

Set-up in the studio

I used two different kinds of lighting while I was making practise shots. Trying out different lighting positions to make the shoes look their best.
I also used a range of resources:

My Macro Lens.

Some fake flowers.

An empty picture frame.

Some ribbon.

My remote shutter lead, so that I didn't knock the camera by accident while taking the pictures on a very low shutter speed.

Different lighting positions

This is from the far right, just bring a little light onto the shoes to create a great shadow on one side.

Again lighting from the right at first.

Lite from in front. I like how much light is on the shoes without them looking to shiny.

Next I tried lighting from the left to see what difference there was.

This is the first set up I used with the light box to the right.

And the tripod I used.

The proper shots

These were taken with the lighting I wanted and I really like the way most of them turned out.

I used a mirror for some of the shots because I was trying to create a cool reverse effect.

It was really annoying because I really like some of the mirror shots and there were prints all over it making it look a state and they wouldn't come off.

In Photoshop

Looking at G&D shoe adverts layouts.

I put one of my best shots into Photoshop.

Then found a D&G icon online.

Then Loaded it into Photoshop.

And cut out the text from the white background.

Then pasted it onto my picture.

Then added a slogan.

Then I tried a different idea so I cut out the shoes from this photo.

And pasted them onto this beautiful smokey background texture. And used the D&G icon and changed it to white.

Then I loaded another photo of the shoes but at a different angle.

And pasted them onto the smokey backdrop.

I faded these ones slightly because I thought it looked quite cool.

Then I added the other shoes and made them more visible then the others.

Then I decided to swap then round.

Then I added the slogan again.

This was my first poster idea.
It's very simple but I think it's nice.

Then I added the colour back to the shoes that are fully visible to make them darker and stand out more.

This is the second idea. I like this one more because it looks more professional to the other one.
I am choosing this one as my final image for my advert for an item of clothing.

This is the smoke background that I used.

And this is the Icon I used.
